Wu Guanzhong (1919–2010) é um pintor contemporâneo, hoje em dia reconhecido como um dos fundadores da pintura moderna chinesa e considerado um dos artistas mais importantes no Sec. XX na China. Pintou vários aspectos da China: pássaros, animais, pessoas, arquitectura, assim como muitas paisagens num estilo reminescente dos pintores impressionistas dos anos 1990.

"The relationship between semblance and non-semblance is in fact the same as the relationship between concrete and abstract. What exactly constitutes spirit resonance and lifelike motion in Chinese traditional painting? Whether in landscape or in flower-and-bird painting, it lies in the expressive difference between motion that has spirit resonance and motion that does not. Within this there is the question of the harmony or conflict between the abstract and the concrete, and the factor of either beauty or ugliness that hovers just beyond.
